Dr Shalini Kamal Kumar is a Consultant Radiation Oncologist with over 6 years of experience in comprehensive cancer care across tertiary oncology centres. She is currently practicing as a Consultant Radiation Oncologist at HCG Oncology, Bangalore. With experience in advanced radiotherapy techniques, brachytherapy and concurrent chemotherapy, Dr. Shalini is involved in the comprehensive management of patients with complex malignancies, including treatment planning, toxicity management, cancer screening and multidisciplinary oncology care. Her approach focuses on evidence-based treatment and patient-centred outcomes.

Dr Shalini has specialised experience in advanced radiotherapy techniques, including Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT), Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT), Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) and 3D-Conformal Radiation Therapy (3D-CRT). Her expertise also includes Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) and CBCT-based verification, along with target volume delineation of GTV, CTV and PTV using multimodality imaging.

Her experience in brachytherapy includes intracavitary, interstitial, intraluminal and mould techniques. Treatment planning and target delineation are performed using a range of imaging modalities, including CT, MRI, PET-CT, contrast-enhanced CT and bone scans, supporting accurate treatment planning and delivery.

Dr Shalini has experience in treating a broad range of malignancies, including head and neck, breast, gynaecological, thoracic, gastrointestinal, central nervous system (CNS) and genitourinary cancers. Her clinical practice includes concurrent chemoradiation and multimodality cancer treatment, along with the management of treatment-related toxicities throughout the course of cancer care.

Her clinical expertise also extends to oncologic emergency management, including spinal cord compression, superior vena cava (SVC) syndrome and brain metastases. In palliative oncology, her experience includes palliative radiotherapy, symptom control and supportive and end-of-life care, with a focus on managing symptoms and improving the quality of life of patients with advanced disease.

Cancer screening and early detection are also among her areas of clinical experience, particularly oral, breast and cervical cancer screening. During her residency, Dr. Shalini screened several thousand patients and gained experience in Pap smear and Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) procedures. Her additional procedural skills include pleural aspiration, ascitic tapping, FNAC and biopsy assistance.

Dr Shalini also contributes to multidisciplinary tumour board discussions and leadership, supporting collaborative decision-making and treatment planning for patients requiring multidisciplinary oncology care.
